Crafting meaning that lasts: 17 years with The Original Mountain Marathon

We first started working with The Original Mountain Marathon (OMM) back in 2008 after a chance meeting with OMM Ltd founder Mike Parsons at a local summer fair. Seventeen years later, the relationship has only gone from strength to strength, built on shared values of endurance, the outdoors, and creating items that are made to be kept, and treasured. This year’s event took place on our doorstep at Shap Abbey, and once again we were asked to create the prize coasters gifted to participants, along with a bespoke presentation plaque.

Why brands like OMM choose us

OMM do not do disposable. Neither do we.

We crafted 200 coasters as individual mementos of this year’s event, laser engraved with a bespoke design and made using repurposed oak offcuts from another local woodworker. Turning what would have been waste into something with story and significance.

Each one went through

  • three rounds of sanding to remove laser burn and soften every edge
  • two coats of food safe oil for longevity
  • a felt base, applied by hand for a refined finish

Every piece feels like something worth keeping, a memory that lives beyond the weekend.

A presentation piece with soul

Alongside the coasters, we produced a one-off presentation plaque made from locally sourced sycamore, chosen for its character and natural waney edge. The OMM lettering was hand routed, then inlaid with reclaimed Westmorland slate. The rest of the wording was laser engraved. Four grades of sanding down to 400 grit achieved a silky smooth tactile finish. Again, hand oiled twice. Nothing here was generic. Everything was considered.
