From Tree To Treasure

Crafted for your estate. Rooted in your story

Turn estate timber into something truly special with BUD Designs’ From Tree to Treasure service.

We work with landowners and estates to transform fallen or felled trees into handcrafted furniture, gifts, and shop-ready products — all made in Cumbria with care, creativity, and a deep respect for your land’s story.

Site visit & conversation

We’ll come to you — walk the site, see the tree, and talk through what’s possible. We’ll listen to your ideas, offer creative input, and take care of the technical stuff — species, condition, drying time, yield, and what’s realistic.

Design & proposal

From rustic to refined, practical to purely beautiful — we’ll sketch out product ideas that suit your tree, your brand, and your goals. This might include high-end furniture, hand-turned bowls, gift shop items, or a custom range for estate guests.

Processing & making

We’ll arrange milling, drying, and turning where needed. Once the wood’s ready, our team of makers and artists get to work — each item crafted by hand, in our Cumbrian workshop, using traditional and modern methods.

Branding & presentation

We can laser-engrave, stamp or mark your products with estate branding, dates, initials or provenance — subtle or statement. We’ll also help with packaging or display ideas if these are for your shop or visitor centre.

Delivery & care

Finished products are carefully packed, ready for shop sale, gifting, or use around the estate. You’ll get a full inventory, and everything arrives looking sharp and handled with care — no fuss, no plastic, no nonsense.

What types of trees do you work with?

We can work with most native hardwoods — oak, ash, beech, sycamore, birch, and more. If the timber is sound and has a story, we’ll explore what’s possible. We’ll always assess the condition and suitability before committing.

Does the tree need to be freshly felled?

Not necessarily. We can work with both freshly felled or seasoned timber. In some cases, we can even mill and store the wood for you until it’s ready to use — depending on the end product and drying time needed.

How long does the whole process take?

It depends on the timber and the products. If drying is needed, that can take several months. But we’ll always give you a clear timeline upfront, and we’re happy to stagger deliveries if you want some items sooner than others.

Can you create branded or estate-specific designs?

Yes — we offer custom engraving, estate crests, initials, and even bespoke shapes or motifs. If you sell items in your shop or use them for guest gifting, we’ll make sure they feel like part of your wider brand.

What’s the minimum order or cost?

There’s no strict minimum, but we’ll always be upfront about what’s worthwhile. Sometimes a single piece can be incredibly special. Other times, it makes sense to create a full range for retail. We’ll work to your budget and your brief.
